Project Summary
The Project focused to support farmer's groups to construct farmer-owned, built and
managed micro- irrigation facilities at the local level in Dolakha, Lalitpur, Ramechhap
and Sindhuli districts.
Objectives
The project consisted of four major tasks to ensure peace dividend to the farmers
through community peace building and improved small-scale agricultural infrastructures.
Specific Project Objectives/Tasks were:

To construct small-scale agricultural infrastructure (small irrigation).

To train DADO officers on conflict sensitive approach.

To conduct public meeting or sensitization on community peace building for
farmers.

A total of 41 micro- irrigation projects (10 each in Dolokha, Lalitupu and Ramechap and
11 in Sindhuli district) were built by the farmers groups with technical and financial
inputs of the project in collaboration with District Agriculture Office.

Profiles of the projects show that support to small irrigation has made direct benefit to a
total of 1585 households. Similarly, these households have irrigated a total of 7000
ropani (350 ha) of land. Of the total land area irrigated, nearly two-third is the rainfed
upland. And most of the farmers of the project area are small land-holders. The project
provided technical backstopping and developed instruments to monitor the quality of the
farmer built and owned micro-irrigation facilities. Besides, the physical infrastructure
building support o micro-irrigation projects, the farmers groups were trained on group
governance, skills to mediate disputes and community peace building.

Detailed Description of the Actual Services provided
 Facilitating engagement between District Agriculture office and farmers groups
for appropriate resource allocation and effective service delivery.
 Building both supply side and demand side capacity to enhance transparency
accountability and ownership at the local level.
 All the 41 events community/ public meetings were accomplished in the
respective project VDCs.
 Farmers were aware on community peace building, community mediation
process, group governance, duties and responsibilities of right holders and right
bearers etc.
 41 small-scale agricultural infrastructures (small-scale irrigation construction)
were constructed to promote agricultural production.
 DADO officers gained knowledge on conflict sensitive approach to agriculture
service delivery.

 Small farmer groups were found capable of collecting cash-fund.
 Support to small irrigation scheme has provided direct benefit to a total of 1585
households and 41 small farmer groups.
 Support to these households has irrigated a total of 7000 ropani (350) of land.
 Farmer's incomes are increased to grow seasonal and off-seasonal vegetables.

Significance & Legacy

This project contributed directly to IGD's institutional knowledge base and helped establish long-term networks among local communities, civic leaders, and government stakeholders.
